Date of Work:  may 2004

given the opportunity to design the artwork for this chair, was a challenge I could not resist. started with a pile of natural tan leather pieces. first the templates where made from a similar chair so that place ment would be accurate. each panel was separately composed around the main back panel showing the bear shield. I pict the bear not only for its native American symbolism and meaning, but to captures the spirit . The back panel with its four bears symbol of the four direction the eagle feathers sacred , the arrow head for courage & bravery and the turquoise bear fetish combined on a shield truly represents strong medicine. It was a joy to create all the painting was done by hand with large round sable brushes and acrylic fabric airbrush paint , though I do not use air brush myself , I use this for it's finer texture. the whole thing is ironed with a hot iron to seal and let it sink into the leather this fixes the paint and makes it permanent.
