Art of the Day: 04/03/2004
This Week's Theme:   Fiberart
Fiberart is experiencing a new level of popularity and visibility in the art world. This week you'll see pieces that explore both the traditional and the cutting edge of the media and its possibilites, from the art quilt to sculptural and mixed media works. EBSQ is proud to offer these seven works in conjunction with the 2004 Fiberart International Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Fiber Art, which opens 3 April 2004 in Pittsburgh.

The Nest is a personal project on combining nature with fabric to create art. The branch was found in our yard after a storm and sparked the idea of a felt nest nestled among it's arms. This was my first attempt at using felt to sculpt an object. The nest is composed of hand stitched felt leaves, unspun silk and handmade dyed paper that I stitched closed with floss and green beads. The nest is hung in an old vegetable crate that I dry brushed with titan buff acrylic paint. The yarn at the bottom is from Plucky Fluff.
