The Art by the Inch Challenge dares visual artists from around the globe to participate in a flurry of artistic activity, aiming to output 10,000 square inches of art in just thirty days. Participants begin creating November 1 and continue counting every inch of art they produce, ending the challenge at midnight on November 30.
Inspired by the folks at National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Art by the Inch was started in November of 2003 to give visual artists a common goal and supportive community to create without thinking about the end result. The focus on quantity of inches being more important than quality encourages participants to take risks with their artwork.
Many artists have used the challenge as a way to break a creative block, build a daily art habit, or try new techniques or mediums.
The challenge is open for sign-ups through the month of November to any creative person willing to invest the time to see if they can measure up!
