Once again, EBSQ members have come together to work on a collective project:; six artists joined forces to create the “Spring Pop Collaborative”. The piece consists of six individual 8X10” canvases, all created with the same theme (“Spring”) and in the same style (“Pop Art”). The individual components are all reflective of each artist’s personal style, yet the finished piece (measuring an impressive 20” x 24”) works as a coordinated whole. From allergy-suffering figures to fat birds, gently waving flowers to exploding petals of color, the collaborative succeeds as a literal patchwork of springtime images.
The artists created the piece with the express intention of auctioning it on eBay. In discussing where the proceeds from the auction would go, everyone decided unanimously to turn around and put the money right back into EBSQ. “EBSQ has done so much for me as an artist---I love the idea of taking part in a project that will benefit the group, even in a small way,” said member Jenny Doss. Kelli Dubay’s reason for participating in the project was that “…it is important for me to donate my art and ability in any project/event that will support a good cause such as… fund-raising for artists.” Still another benefit to artists was the opportunity to work in a style not normally their own: “I normally paint with transparent watercolors on paper, so painting with acrylic on an actual stretched canvas was different and very fun! Plus this collaboration piece dealt with the ‘Pop’ style which utilizes very bright, bold, rich colors---which I love!" said Lori Rase Hall.
Coordinator Linda Falge summed up another important element to the project: “…it's a cool collaborative work that will give some buyer a chance to show that they support self-representing artists.” Supporting self-representing artists is what EBSQ’s all about, and upholding that mission is what the “Spring Pop Collaborative” is about, too.
To view the featured auction, which begins Thursday, August 14th and runs for ten days, go to eBay.com and look under seller “artistalinda” (the piece will be listed under coordinator Linda Falge’s eBay ID). The auction will be listed with the keywords “EBSQ Spring Pop” in the title.
