Bison in Winter

- by Lynn Bickerton Chan

This week's theme: Winter Landscapes

Bare limbs in relief against the sky. A muffled world in a blanket of snow. Cold and lean, yet complete and beautiful. It must be a winter landscape.

Art: Bison in Winter by Artist Lynn Bickerton Chan
Yellowstone has a resident population of a few thousand Bison. Almost all of these large animals stay within the borders of the park for the entire winter. They use their massive heads to brush aside snow and expose the previous season's grass, now dried and nutrient poor, but the only forage available.
