Friend or Foe?

- by Kris Jean

This week's theme: The Rainforest

The rainforests are the most diverse and densely inhabited ecosystems on the planet. From the forest floor to the canopy, the plants and animals found there include the beautiful, the colourful and the strange. Most of what is found in the rainforests remain undiscovered, making them some of the most fascinating and mysterious places on earth.

Art: Friend or Foe? by Artist Kris Jean
This peice was created specifically for the Lemur show.

I took this as an opportunity to paint something WAY out of my expertise and paint an animal which is far from my forte'. (and to read up on their plight)

I tried to capture the cunning of the creature as he snaps his head to try to catch a view of somthing just off canvas. (Almost stoic waiting to see if he needs to hide or play.)

This was quite fun and enjoyable - plus I'm pleased with my first real attempt at an animal. :D

(It is also a Triad color scheme using deep smoky purples for the fur, burnt oranges for the limb and smoky greens for the forest - each color intermingled with the others for shading.)
