simple pleasures

- by Elizabeth Metz

This week's theme: The Artist's Book

The written word. Once only available to the few, these compilations were valued as objects as much as for content. In the 21st century, the production of books and paper has become cheap and easy. Though to many, they are treasures still. There are artists that honor and explore this fascination with books in their art. Whether through fabrication, alteration, or a combination of these, the artist-made book and its pages are a unique and beautiful form of expression.

Art: simple pleasures by Artist Elizabeth Metz
Put together as part of a sudden urge to bind everything in my house into books, this is a journal made with a photo of my grandparents in a silver frame. Of all those who lived with life's simplest pleasures, my grandparents were among them, and whoever ends up with this journal will likely have good mojo in that direction. It's japanese paper covers are reinforced over cardstock, and the interior pages are watercolor paper, doubled over as in traditional bookbinding of this type. It should support either wet or dry media perfectly.
