SHE SELLS SCINTILLLLATING SEASHELLS DOWN BY THE SEASHORE

- by Theodora Demetriades

This week's theme: Sea Shells

Anne Morrow Lindbergh took them as inspiration for her book of essays "Gift from the Sea". They are the hard, protective coverings made by creatures from a very different and mysterious world. Sea shells are the treasures found during a walk on the beach. We look for them. We delight in their different shapes and colours. Sea shells are a glimpse beneath the surface of the ocean. They are hints of life in a vast sea - hints that we can hold in our hand.

Art: SHE SELLS SCINTILLLLATING SEASHELLS DOWN BY THE SEASHORE by Artist Theodora Demetriades
While I was working on this piece the childhood verse just kind of kept floating around in my head so of course it ended up as the title. In Jersey by early spring most of us start thinking about long hot days spent at the shore....just the best way to get away from the heat. Put that lounge chair in the water and maybe once in a while roam around the beach looking for shells. Sometimes there is a prize to find and keep. Just the mention of the Ocean makes my Grandaughter squeal with delight...the possibility of finding treasured shells and maybe just maybe even a Mermaid. Oh the fabulous imagination of a child!!!
