This cross is hand formed using ceramic clay. It is then bisque fired in a kiln and cooled. Once cooled it is hand glazed with a special glaze I mix up here in the studio. It is then placed back into the kiln and fired up to 1800 degrees. I then reach into the kiln while the piece is RED HOT and pull it out with long tongs and welding gloves. It is placed in a pit filled with Oregon pine needles to "Smoke"..this is what causes the unique color effects.
