When I first saw it, I was so moved by the strength and beauty of Dawn Thompson's "Genesis" piece that it has stayed in my mind ever since. Some things are like that. I could not ever envision even trying to "rip" that particular work. However, as I studied all of the truly beautiful and singular work she has created, I couldn't get it out of my mind, so that is what I chose to do my version of for this show.
My painting, in the pop art genre, which is rendered on gallery wrapped canvas, is a bold representation of fertility. The sun symbol in the background is eternal as are the figures of the mother and child. They serve to represent that despite the uncertainties we face in our world today, the renewal of the species will perpetuate itself throughout eternity.
