of the Earth
An Original Painting
Completed in Studio, IN PERSPECTIVE STUDIO
by
L Pace, c2005.
This mixed media piece began with movement of acrylics as a base color. Built over that is Holbein Duo Oils carving the horse out of the color movement below.
I chose the background colors to reflect the earth and the sandy loam soil around our region of the country, the blue reflective of the night sky and the white and yellow to represent the moon and starts. Out of the night and out of the earth emerged this horse. Unplanned composition found itself in the movement of the acrylic undercoating.
After the background was dry, I sat the painting on the easel and stood back. I turned my back to it and began to meditate, closing my eyes. As I turned to look again, I picked up my paint brush with White oil paint and began to pull the horse off the canvas...hence the title "of the earth" The horse emerged "OF THE EARTH".
I had no preconceived idea that this painting would result in a horse... it is simply something I saw as I took a fresh look at the acrylic background.
