This painting was an extension of a short story I wrote called "Travis and the Rest of the Story." I wanted a picture to accompany the story and used my 17-year-old cat Merlin as a model. The story is based off a character from the television show "Moonlight." In the story a mouse from the pet store finds himself in mortal danger from a fat arrogant cat named Travis. The mouse soon learns the only way to keep himself alive is to keep the cat talking about his life before he came to live with his owners and insists to know "the rest of the story." The bookcases are in diagonal squares after the design from the sets of the show and the titles on the books are either titles of my own stories or stories that have inspired my writing.
