Art: Raven by Artist Madeline Carol Matz
"The Raven" is inspired by the poem by Edgar Allen Poe of the same name. It illustrates the final stanza:

And the Raven, never flitting, still sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallus just above the chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor

Shall be lifted - nevermore!

This poem has always haunted me. It embodies loneliness in loss in a perfect way and the Raven seems to embody the dark and the inevitable loss of love.
