Art: Man of Stone by Artist Jacqueline Swann
"Man Of Stone" is a painting that is "Heavy" in both the visual sense and also in the literal, physical sense. Visually it appears to be a very heavy slab of stone but, it is actually nothing more than an illusion produced by using gypsum, acrylic paint, light and shadows. That being said, for a painting it is actually quite "Heavy". It weighs 16lbs.

I am a self-taught artist who takes inspiration from nature. I almost exclusively use a stone-like effect in all of my paintings.

This painting represents the "Inukshuk" which are stone sculptures that can be found across Canada. Traditionally these sculptures are of Inuit descent and were built as markers to "show the correct path". Today, in Canada, it has become a common pastime to create mini "Inukshuk" sculptures along many of Canada's major roadways; particularly along highways and roadways through the mountains. It was my love of these stone structures that actually inspired me to become an artist. It is finished on all sides with a heavily textured stone-like surface which was created on reinforced gallery wrapped canvas.
