Art: Blue Metal by Artist Shirley Jean
Polystyrene is better known by its trade name stryrofoam. My art is made out of the stuff they use for packaging around TVs, electronics, etc. The best thing about using styrofoan in art is that it keeps it out of landfills. Thats the main reason I started experimenting with the medium. To learn more about techniques for this medium visit my profile. This piece has many layers of different paints. Depth is created by the different size pieces. Depth on the surface is because of the paint layers. The piece can hang vertically in either direction. Shipping Hanging and Care Postage is now based on volume not weight. All my pieces weight about a pound even so the bigger the pieces the more it cost to ship. Hanging this is easy because it is so light. There is no need to use anchor bolts, a nail will do The pieces are fragile because some of the foam is very thin and easy to break. Cleaning is easy. Gently blow off dust with a can of compressed air.
