Art: Glow by Artist Dawn Lee Thompson
This bowl is part of a series of female nude pieces exploring both physical and emotional aspects of the self, in the context of long term relationships. This piece indicates peace and a sense of relaxed power. Those magical moments when you feel in control and that all is light. So fleeting, and generally only appreciated in retrospect. This bowl was constructed with Bullseye art glas; meticulously hand cut, ground and assembled then kiln fired to fuse the individual pieces into one sheet of glass, then kiln fired again to slump into an elegant dish. It is 6.5" square and approximately 1.25" deep at the corners. It was slumped into a square sushi mold with an elegant "ball" curve within the square shape. The circular shapes break beyond edges of the dish slightly to give an added dynamism. The figure is of the palest pink opaque glass with soft lavender shadows. It is highlighted against a cheerful periwinkle blue with chartruse circles, with a glowing pale yellow rayed orb. Each of my vessels is a one-of-a-kind, original work of art.
