Art: The Beautiful Bettie Page by Artist Elisa Hirt
Bettie Page has always been a fascinatingly tragic figure to me. Known as 'the original pin-up,' Bettie began her risque modeling career in 1951. To me, she is the epitome of a free spirit. At a time when women were expected to be stay at home mothers and wives, she embraced her sexuality and pushed the envelope. She helped pave the way for other women whom wanted something else.

However, it came at a high cost. Bettie Page abruptly ended her career in 1958. She removed herself from the spotlight and was essentially a recluse until her death in 2008.
