This piece originated from a challenge from an art group to make something with the theme of "unauthorized access." Then a series of events took place that made this piece fall into place. Firstly attending an event at the local airport that was covered with all kinds of signs representing the theme. Then finding the vintage photograph of the woman.
The woman made me think of how I felt after my date rape, just days following my college graduation. Then I thought about how I was much less open to physical contact with others, even family and close friends and this piece came together.
The background is made from acrylic paints and a phototransfer of some free writing about my rape experience. The main image has a reversed shadow of gesso to represent how one's thinking is often twisted and turned around after such an experience.
